A few days ago, I watched a documentary
called “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” www.fatsickandnearlydead.com by
Joe Cross. In this video, Cross explains
that he was over 100 pounds overweight because of his eating and
lifestyle. His life was heading in a
direction that didn’t end well. Plenty
of people have good intentions particularly on this date to do something but
never change direction. Cross, however, decided
to change direction by providing his body with all of the nutrients he could
through juicing. Along the way he met
Phil Staples, a morbidly obese truck driver, who weighed in at 429 pounds and
was quite literally “a cheeseburger away from a heart attack.” They embark on an amazing and inspirational
journey toward health and recovery.
I would say that they were getting back to
plan God intended for their lives. In
Genesis, God says, “I give you ever seed-bearing plant on the whole face of the
earth and every tree that has fruit with seeds in it. They will be yours for food…everything that
has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food” (Genesis
1:29-30). Perhaps Joe was onto something here.
This was God’s plan all along. I
realized that I was in the same shape. I
am not taking care of the precious gift that God has given me. Also, I realized it was completely selfish
for me to harm my body when Rebekah and the kids love having me around. Food-assisted suicide is not an option. So, I have decided to change direction and
take a play from the Bible. It is quite
amazing how God uses all people to accomplish his will.
Today, I weighed in at 278.5 pounds and my
belly is 53¼ inches around. So, I am
going to have a juice-only diet for the next 7 days and try to reboot my
body. If God leads me to go longer then
I will do so. As with many people, my
diet is one of the last and possibly the greatest stronghold of my selfishness. It is something I have to surrender to God’s
will.
